Ive musta borrowed this at least once to check my senses to compare this to their latest and favorite CD, Blue-Sky Research. This is a far cry of what Welcome has become They have a very unique sound, to this day unmatched - this cd is full of personal energy that is from the heart. When I first started into the depper and darker rock and roll, Taproot was one of the first groups I got into. "Again & Again" resonates well with me and always sends chills down my spine. I can listen to "Gift" in any mood and relate to all of their songs. As they gave Fred Durst the notorious "F-U" phone message, they quickly rose to the top of bands I had to hear, and they delivered. The way they carry themselves really comes through in their music. I would define their music as cool it really is cool music. I was fortunate enough to get a hold of Taproots demo and it gave me chills. When you go to shows there are usually street-teamers passing out demos and shwag. The sonic portrait of a band at the provocative center of an artistic self-realization, the reflective yet aurally relentless album shifts dramatically from the rhythmic, raging "Smile" and the stirring, dynamic "Emotional Times" to the propulsive, restless "Now," and the appropriately tilted, raw-riffing "Impact." The band - singer Stephen Richards, guitarist Mike DeWolf, bassist Philip Lipscomb, and drummer Jarrod Montague - now make their much anticipated, hard-hitting Atlantic debut with GIFT. Critical acclaim followed as Taproot developed a sizably rabid fanbase. By early 1998, the group had self-released their widely heralded debut album.SOMETHING MORE THAN NOTHING, and later that year came the no-less-popular EP - MENTOBE. It wasn't long after solidifying themselves as rising regional stars with their early, searing club performances that the story of Taproot spread far afield from its hometown base. Taproot - the Ann Arbor, Michigan rock quartet formed in late 1997 - is that kind of band.
